Hearing Assessment

A hearing assessment, also known as an audiologic evaluation, is a comprehensive examination designed to evaluate the function of your ears and identify any potential hearing loss or related issues.

Video Otoscopy is a test used to visually inspect the outer ear canal and ear drum to assess if any debris/ wax is blocking the sound waves from entering the ear system and affecting the sensitivity of the system.

Pure tone Audiometry is the main testing used to identify the sensitivity of the patients hearing levels. It is a subjective testing method used by an audiologist and consists of the patient wearing headphones and responding appropriately when they hear both loud and soft sounds across a range of frequencies.

Bone Conduction Audiometry is a supplementary test used along side pure tone audiometry to assess the cochlear function. A headphone is still used however it sits behind your ear on the forehead to vibrate the cochlear. This testing allows the audiologist to differentiate the sensitivity between the middle and inner ear systems and allows for diagnosis of what system is impeding the hearing.

Speech Audiometry is a test used along side Pure Tone Audiometry and Bone Conduction to assess the sensitivity of the hearing system and also a functional test used to assess speech recognition and detection levels.

Tympanometry is an objective measure used to assess the middle ear function. It uses both a slight change in pressure and a tone to assess how well the tympanic membrane and small bones behind it move.
